Who are Westdal & Hayward?

We would make perfect spies! What could be more invisible than a middle aged woman?

“Reminiscent of the late great Victoria Wood…The songs are genius…They join the ranks of Fascinating Aida and Flo and Joan.”

What we do

Freyja Westdal and Beth Hayward are MAWOPWs (Middle Aged, White, Over-Privileged Women) and yet it was only 7 years ago when they realised that they were now at that stage in their lives when they could fulfill their long held vocation to provide 2 very special services.

Number one, to tell you what they think.

Number two, to tell you what you should do.

And so, in 2015, they took the plunge and set themselves up as Agony Aunts At Large. (Think Cathy and Clare, but with less oestrogen and more gin) The result is the satirical, biting, and bolshie chatter and song that they have used ever since to get the world to sit up straight, get its elbows off the table and tuck into whatever they decide to dish out.

How we got here

Beth and Freyja met as aspiring young actresses on a tour where Beth was Freyja’s understudy; a fact that Freyja has never allowed to be forgotten, in a friendship which, despite this, has lasted for over 25 years.

In that short time Westdal & Hayward have supported Dean Friedman on tour as well as performing alongside and also writing songs for 4 Poofs and a Piano. Then, in 2019, they performed for the first time at the Edinburgh Fringe. The audience reviewers urged other Fringe-goers to join in the “glamorous hilarity” and enjoy an evening with these “Fantastically funny & incredibly clever” ladies.

They were most recently seen at The Regent Theatre in Ipswich where they were invited to be part of a star-studded charity event for EACH and were honoured to appear on stage beside the legendary Griff Rhys Jones as well as Eddie Izzard, Clive Anderson, Stephen Fry, Johnny Vegas and Ruthie Henshall! (Yes, they couldn’t believe it either!)
